I employ a relational approach in therapy that is deeply consultative and engaging. The very foundation of the relationship we build together is key since much of our work focuses on repairing the damage from narcissistic abuse, betrayal, childhood trauma and attachment wounds. This process can often evoke feelings that mimic rejection and abandonment, which I provide the space to allow you to safely navigate. One of my goals for you is to build a windows of tolerance in order to feel the emotion. This involves me being present and attuned to you, guiding you to learn how to feel confident to experience the emotions that don’t feel good in the body. You know, the ones we’d rather shove down and pretend “it’s fine.” Part of this is learning how to not self-isolate when big feelings arise and having me be able to co-regulate with you. This allows you to begin the framework to learn how to master self-regulation instead of becoming flooded and shutting down or reacting towards others; invoking a guilt and shame spiral.

Many individuals carry preverbal trauma, which serves as the undercurrent for our experiences with shame and the negative beliefs we form about ourselves. Phrases like, “I don’t matter,” “I’m worthless,” “I’m unworthy,” “I’m unlovable,” and “I don’t feel safe,” are just a few examples, but the list could go on indefinitely. Conversely, as we mature, we can cultivate more adaptive beliefs such as, “I’m capable,” “I am confident,” “I’m successful,” and “I’m okay.” These healthier thoughts emerge from experiences that shape our understanding of ourselves, especially once our brains are more developed. However, if you’ve encountered significant trauma or are dealing with PTSD, it’s common for negative beliefs and fears to take root. I am here to help you navigate through those challenges and step into a more uplifting belief system, such as “I got through it” and “I’m alive.” I utilize a broad range of techniques in therapy to create a truly unique experience that is tailored specifically to each client I connect with, working through trauma and damaging experiences to shift towards a more powerful mindset. My approach incorporates talk therapy while weaving in modalities like EMDR, IFS, and somatic techniques, depending on what we are focusing on or your individual needs.
